Papua New Guinea: Kutubu well to explore deeper

Oil Search Ltd. said the IDT-25 development well in Kutubu field in Papua New Guinea was drilling at 3,650 m on June 23 and had penetrated the Cretaceous Toro development target.

HOUSTON, June 24
– Oil Search Ltd. said the IDT-25 development well in Kutubu field in Papua New Guinea was drilling at 3,650 m on June 23 and had penetrated the Cretaceous Toro development target.

The well is being deepened to an exploration objective in the Jurassic Koi Iange formation. The top of the Koi Iange sands has been penetrated with some indications of hydrocarbons while drilling, Oil Search said. The company plans to run 5-in. liner before further deepening.

Participants in the well are Oil Search (PNG) Ltd. 60.05%, Ampolex (PNG Petroleum) Inc. 11.61%,
Merlin Pacific Oil Co. Ltd. 2.91%, Merlin Petroleum Co. 18.69%, and Petroleum Resources Kutubu Ltd. 6.75%.
