HOUSTON, June 8
– A group led by Providence Resources PLC has launched a 3D seismic survey over the Barryroe oil discovery in the northern Celtic Sea off Ireland.

The 2-week shoot forms part of the predevelopment drilling program at Barryroe, which underlies Seven Heads gas field. Drilling at Barryroe is to start in mid-2011 with the GSF Arctic III semisubmersible.

Three exploration and appraisal wells have tested at 1,300-1,600 b/d of 30-42° gravity oil with 12-22% wax content from Cretaceous Middle and Lower Wealden age reservoir sands at 4,500-7,550 ft true vertical depth subsea. The crude may require surface treatment. Technically recoverable contingent resource is estimated at 59-144 million bbl.

Providence operates Barryroe with 50% interest. San Leon Energy has 30% interest and Lansdowne Oil & Gas 20%.
