HOUSTON, May 3 – Bill Barrett Corp., Denver, has drilled 34 wells and completed 23 since restarting activity in the West Tavaputs area of the Uinta basin south of Roosevelt, Utah.
As of Mar. 31, the company had an approximate 96% working interest in production from 201 gross wells at West Tavaputs, where its 2011 program calls for 100 total wells. Primary development targets include the shallow Mesaverde and Wasatch zones, and upside potential is recognized in the shallow Green River oil zones and deeper formations including the Mancos.
In the Blacktail Ridge-Lake Canyon area southwest of Roosevelt, the company has added a second rig that it hopes to retain all year if it receives an adequate number of drilling permits. The area offers upside potential through horizontal drilling, increased density, and field extension.
In April 2011, Barrett spud its first horizontal well in the area as part of its effort to test certain horizons that may be conducive to horizontal drilling. The first horizontal oil test was drilled in the Tertiary Uteland Butte zone just above Wasatch at 4,720 ft with a 3,131-ft lateral to be completed with 15 fracture stimulation stages.
