HOUSTON, May 20 – Melrose Resources PLC is drilling the South West Kanun-1 exploratory well on License 4218, one of eight blocks that comprise the company’s South Mardin concessions in southeastern Turkey near the border with Syria.
The well is at 1,310 ft, and Melrose will soon set 20-in. casing. The well is to reach planned total depth of 8,500 ft in mid to late July.
It is designed to test a four-way dip closed structure with oil potential in Cretaceous and Ordovician formations. The prospect has combined midrange gross unrisked prospective resources of 55 million bbl with a 19% chance of success.
Melrose is operator with 66.7% interest in the licenses.
