HOUSTON, May 6
-- A group led by Total SA’s Angolan subsidiary has gauged a deepwater oil discovery on Block 17/06 off northern Angola.

The Canna-1 exploratory well, in 445 m of water on the northeastern part of the block, found hydrocarbons in a reservoir of Miocene age and flowed at the rate of more than 5,000 b/d of high-quality 33° gravity oil on a production test.

Angola’s state Sonangol is block concessionaire. Total’s TEPA subsidiary has 30% interest, Sonangol subsidiaries have 57.5%, ACREP Bloco 17 SA 5%, Falcon Oil Holding Angola SA 5%, and Partex Oil & Gas (Holdings) Corp. 2.5%.
