HOUSTON, May 2 -- Statoil submitted a development and operation plan for the Katla discovery in the North Sea to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy with production start up scheduled for the first-quarter 2013.
Katla, a March 2009 discovery, is 13 km southwest of Oseberg South platform and is one of Statoil's fast-track subsea developments. Statoil estimates the it will recover 45 million boe from Katla.
Statoil expects to invest 5.4 billion kroner to develop the field with a subsea template and four wells. Two wells will produce oil and gas, while the other two are for injecting water for reservoir pressure support.
Oil from Katla will flow to the Oseberg South platform while the gas will be injected for reservoir pressure support on Oseberg Omega North. Oseberg South is an integrated steel platform in 100 m of water with accommodation, drilling module, and first-stage oil and gas separation.
This is the third fast-track development plan Statoil has submitted to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy this year. Previous plans submitted were for Visund South and Vigdis North-East.
Operator Statoil holds 49.3% interest in the field. The remaining interest is held by Petoro AS 33.6%, Total E&P Norge AS 10%, ExxonMobil Exploration & Production Norway AS 4.7%, and ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS 2.4%
