HOUSTON, May 18 – Quebec’s government has introduced legislation to extend the terms of all oil and gas exploration licenses issued in the province.
The Ministry of Natural Resources introduced Bill 18 in the National Assembly, under which holders of licenses would be exempted from performing the work for 3 years and the minister would suspend license terms.
Questerre Energy Corp., Calgary, a major licenseholder in Quebec, said the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks has announced the mandate and membership of the committee that will oversee the strategic environmental assessment (“SEA”) for shale gas development in the province.
The 11-member committee’s mandate will include delivery of a report on the strategic environmental assessment to address the issues identified and make recommendations for the regulatory regime to govern shale gas development.
