HOUSTON, May 13
– Total SA and ExxonMobil Corp. will form a partnership to appraise the shale gas potential of ExxonMobil’s Chelm and Werbkowice concessions in Poland.

ExxonMobil will operate the exploration concessions with 51% interest. Total will have 49%.

Awarded for 5 years from March 2009 and December 2008, respectively, Chelm and Werbkowice cover 1,162 sq km and 995 sq km in the Lublin basin in southeastern Poland. ExxonMobil has shot seismic and is evaluating the results of one wildcat on Chelm.

The work program for each concession requires seismic acquisition, drilling of an exploratory well, and production tests if results are encouraging.
