HOUSTON, May 13
– OGX Petroleo e Gas Participacoes SA, Rio de Janeiro, encountered hydrocarbons in the 1-OGX-30-RJS well on the BM-S-58 block where the company has 100% working interest in Santos basin shallow waters off Brazil

The OGX-30 (Salvador) discovery in 150 m of water confirmed a new play in high-pressure high-temperature fractured carbonates of Albian age with a significant rich gas column and a large structured area and helped verify the geological model for this region, enabling appraisal to begin, OGX said.

Of a 330-m hydrocarbon column, 50 m are extensively fractured. The discovery is adjacent to the Belem accumulation discovered at the OGX-17 well on the BM-S-56 block whose discovery evaluation plan ANP has approved. The two finds showed similar columns and structures. Production tests are planned.
