HOUSTON, Apr. 11
-- QGC Pty. Ltd., a unit of BG Group, placed a $58 million order with ABB for automation and telecommunication equipment that will be installed in its upstream coal seam project in the Surat basin of southern Queensland, Australia.

The coal seams will supply gas to QGC's Queensland Curtis LNG project, at Gladstone.

The two LNG trains initially will produce 8.5 million tonnes/year of LNG.

ABB said its equipment will optimize the efficiency of the upstream gas gathering and compression facilities as well as provide communications and remote operation for the 540-km buried pipeline network that will transport gas to the LNG facility at Gladstone.

The order includes ABB's Extended Automation System 800xA for process control and integration with other plant and remote pipeline systems, as well as integrated safety, compressor protection, emergency shutdown, fire and gas applications, and other related automation equipment and services. It also includes telecommunication systems infrastructure and equipment, as well as installation, commissioning support and related project services.

ABB plans to commission the equipment in several phases, with first deliveries scheduled in 2011 through to project completion in 2014.
