HOUSTON, Apr. 8 -- Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) let a $1 billion contract to Subsea 7 Inc. for the engineering, procurement, installation, and precommissioning of four decoupled riser systems that will be installed on the presalt deepwater Guara and Lula northeast areas in the Santos basin off Brazil.
The areas are on Blocks BM-S-9 and BM-S-11 in about 2,200 m of water.
The project scope includes:
• Four submerged 1,900-tonne buoys in about 250 m below sea level, buoy foundations, and associated tethers.
• 27 steel catenary risers with a 3.9 km length and associated pipeline end terminations for 18 7.5-in. production lines, three 9.5-in. water injection lines, and six 8-in. gas injection lines, as well as associated anchor piles and crossings.
Subsea 7 expects to begin engineering and project management work immediately at its Rio de Janeiro office and carry out fabrication of the rigid pipelines at the pipeline fabrication spoolbase at Paranagua, Parana in Brazil that it is developing.
The company has scheduled offshore installation to start during the second half of 2012, using Seven Oceans, Seven Seas, and Skandi Seven.
Petrobras is the operator of both blocks. In BM-S-11 it holds a 65% interest and its partners are BG Group 25% and Portugal's Galp Energia 10%. Its interest in BM-S-9 is 45% and its partners are BG Group 30% and Repsol-YPF SA 25%.
