HOUSTON, Apr. 20
– Oil Search Ltd., Sydney, launched a three-well coal seam gas assessment program in western Papua New Guinea in late 2010.

The first well, Ningerum-1 in EL 1725, was unsuccessful. The second well, Drimgas-1 in EL 1726, drilled in early 2011, intersected coals, and cores are being tested. Drilling was under way earlier this year at the third well, Smipen-3 in EL 1725.

The west boundary of both blocks borders West Papua, Indonesia. Oil Search, which holds 100% interest in the blocks, will review results of the three wells to determine future plans.
