HOUSTON, Apr. 15
-- Lundin Petroleum AB’s Norwegian subsidiary has been awarded its sixth exploration license interest in the Barents Sea off Norway.

PL609 covers 1,180 sq km north of the Snohvit area and just east of PL532, where Statoil made a large oil discovery at the 7220/8-1 well on the Skrugard prospect last month (OGJ Online, Apr. 1, 2011).

Lundin Norway AS will operate PL609 with 40% interest. RWE Dea Norge AS and Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS have 30% each.

Lundin Norway has a strong position in the area with four operated licenses and one partner-operated license in addition to the new award. Lundin Norway is to spud the 7120/3-2 well on the Skalle prospect in the second quarter 2011.
