HOUSTON, Apr. 14
-- McMoRan Exploration Co., New Orleans, reported a production test rate of 54 MMcfd of gas from an undisclosed formation at the second well on its Laphroaig prospect in St. Mary Parish, La.

The test, which registered 9,989 psi flowing tubing pressure on a 30/64-in. choke, returned no water. Permitted as the Pontiff-1 well, in 18-15s-9e, it is to go on line in the second quarter of 2011. McMoRan previously said the well cut 140 net ft of pay.

The 2006 discovery well logged 14 net ft of hydrocarbon-bearing sands in a 24-ft gross interval. It went on line in August 2007 at 44 MMcfd. Total depth was 19,515 ft measured depth in a sidetrack.

McMoRan has a 37.3% working interest and a 28.5% net revenue interest in the two-well Laphroaig field. Energy XXI USA Inc., Houston, has 18.6%.
