HOUSTON, Apr. 25 – A group led by Groundstar Resources Ltd., Calgary, was evaluating the next exploratory location on the Takutu block in Guyana after it plugs the Apoteri K-2 well.
Apoteri K-2 went to 9,812 ft measured total depth, topped the Manari formation at 7,879 ft measured depth, topped the primary target Apoteri formation at 8,300 ft, and encountered light oil and gas shows at 8,300-9,376 ft. Both zones were drillstem tested.
Excellent reservoir quality was found in Apoteri at 9,764-9,812 ft, but the fractured reservoir appears to have been penetrated below the oil-water contact, defined by the interval of oil and gas shows higher up in the section between 8,300 and 9,376 ft.
The wellsite is 600 m west of Home Oil Co. Ltd.’s 1982 Karanambo-1 oil discovery well. The group has mapped five seismic prospects d based on this seismic. The prospects are named Karanambo, Rewa A, B, and C, and Pirara River.
Groundstar is operator of the petroleum prospecting license with 10% interest. Canacol Energy Ltd. has 65%. Sagres Energy Inc. has earned a 25% working interest in the license from Canacol by paying 30% of K-2 drilling costs.
