HOUSTON, Apr. 12
-- ExxonMobil Iraq Ltd. has let a contract to Halliburton for drilling services for 15 wells in the first phase of development of giant West Qurna oil field in southern Iraq.

Halliburton said it will use three rigs and provide a range of well-construction services.

ExxonMobil Iraq, with a 60% interest, leads a group with a technical services contract to raise production under first-phase redevelopment of the field eventually to 2.1 million b/d. The company recently said the project had cleared a contract hurdle by raising production by more than 10% to 285,000 b/d (OGJ Online, Mar. 28, 2011).

Partners are Oil Exploration Co. of Iraq, 25%, and Shell West Qurna BV, 15%.
