Contract let for future Snohvit work

HOUSTON, Apr. 14
-- Statoil Petroleum AS has let a contract to a Foster Wheeler subsidiary for pre-front-end engineering for future Snohvit LNG development at Statoil’s Hammersmith plant on Melkoya Island, about 280 miles north of the Arctic Circle.

No contract value was released.

The scope of work includes design to support “finalization of the development concept” and of the plant capacity for the expansion of LNG production, as well as “energy optimization investigations,” according to Foster Wheeler. Its involvement through this contract will continue through this year.

Statoil has further informed Foster Wheeler that releases of pre-FEED work to it under the existing contract are likely during 2011, depending upon development options selected by Statoil.

The existing 4.2 million tonne/year Snohvit LNG plant is the world’s northernmost LNG facility and was commissioned in 2007. It processes gas transported through an 89-mile subsea pipeline from subsea production on Snohvit and Albatross fields, which comprise the first offshore developments in the Barents Sea.
