HOUSTON, Mar. 28 -- ExxonMobil Iraq Ltd. said the project it leads in Iraq to expand production from giant West Qurna oil field has exceeded a contractually important 10% boost in output.
The company said production increased to 285,000 b/d from an initial rate of 244,000 b/d.
Under terms of the contract, day-to-day production operations have transferred to an operating division staffed by workers from Iraq’s South Oil Co. and ExxonMobil Iraq. Operations include drilling and working over wells and debottlenecking and optimizing facilities.
ExxonMobil Iraq, with a 60% interest, leads a group with a technical services contract to raise production under first-phase redevelopment of the field eventually to 2.1 million b/d (OGJ, Feb. 1, 2010, Newsletter). Partners are Oil Exploration Co. of Iraq, 25%, and Shell West Qurna BV, 15%.
