HOUSTON, Mar. 4
– A group led by RWE Dea has firmed up plans for a second platform in a second development phase at Breagh field in the UK North Sea southern gas basin due to positive results from the 42/13a-6 appraisal well.

Logs indicate 62 ft of net gas bearing sands. Total depth is 8,624 ft measured depth. The well is being suspended as a future producer. Formation permeability has been estimated from a minidrillstem test performed on three gas pay intervals, indicating that permeability is in line with gas pays tested in West Breagh wells.

RWE Dea is operator with 70% interest, and Sterling Resources Ltd., Calgary, has 30%. The companies considered a single well tieback to the Breagh Alpha platform in a minimum case scenario, Sterling said.

“Preliminary evaluation of the 42/13a-6 well results shows that we have achieved more than the minimum case by drilling the thickest gas bearing sequence to date in the Breagh field … This success on the 42/13a-6 well firms up our intentions for “East Breagh” and we will now enter a predevelopment phase,” Sterling said.
