HOUSTON, Mar. 25
– A unit of MOL Hungarian Oil & Gas PLC has spudded the Bekhme-1 exploratory well on the Akri-Bijeel block in Iraq’s Kurdistan region.

Projected depth at Bekhme-1 is 3,000 m to target prospective intervals in Jurassic and Triassic.

Bekhme-1 is 20 km northeast of the Bijell-1 discovery well, to which the operator MOL’s Kalegran Ltd. has attributed a mean 2.4 billion bbl of oil in place, said Gulf Keystone Petroleum Ltd., which has a 20% working interested in the block.

The discoveries at Bijell and at Shaikan on the neighboring Shaikan block have considerably derisked the Bekhme prospect, Gulf Keystone said.
