HOUSTON, Mar. 28 – Norway’s Statoil said extensive logging indicates it has a dry hole at an exploratory well on the Kiwi prospect in the Mediterranean west of the Nile Delta off Egypt.
The well is on the 8,368 sq km El Dabaa license Block 9 in 2,700 m of water. Statoil, operator with 80% equity in the license, and Sonatrach International Petroleum E&P with 20%, will integrate data from the well before making further decisions about the acreage.
The Discoverer Americas drillship will soon head back to the US Gulf of Mexico.
Statoil since 2007 has held El Dabaa and the 9,802 sq km Ras El Hekma Block 10 deepwater concessions. Statoil has fulfilled its work commitment at Ras El Hekma.
