HOUSTON, Feb. 15 – Gran Tierra Energy Inc., Calgary, has spudded the Kanatari-1 exploratory well on 2.3 million acre Block 128 along the crest of the Iquitos arch in northeastern Peru.
Drilling is to conclude in late February, and results are expected in March. The rig is to mobilize for a second exploratory well this year in the adjacent 1.2 million acre Block 122.
Gran Tierra applied to PeruPetro SA to acquire the 60% interest it doesn’t own in Block 95. Gran Tierra budgeted one exploratory well on the 1.3 million acre block in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Block 95 contains the 1974 Amoco Bretana-1 discovery well, which flowed 800 b/d of 18° gravity oil, natural, from Upper Cretaceous Vivian sands.
