Papua New Guinea: Gas-condensate find indicated

-- Eaglewood Energy Inc., Calgary, said it has an indicated gas-condensate discovery at the Ubuntu-1 exploratory well 17 km east of the undeveloped Ketu and Elevala gas-condensate discoveries in PPL 259 in Papua New Guinea.

Wireline log and pressure data suggest the well, which penetrated at least 10 m of net gas-bearing Elevala sandstone at 3,305-30 m, is capable of flowing gas at commercial flow rates, Eaglewood said.

The gas water contact has not been penetrated, indicating the potential for more gas below the Elevala sandstone intersection depth in Ubuntu-1. Estimations of reservoir permeability based on log derived porosity and six pressure data points, suggest that the Elevala sandstone is of good quality and will flow gas-condensate.

As Eaglewood has currently mapped it, the well is located below the trap crest of the Ubuntu structure, which is 1 km to the west. Wireline pressure testing and sampling are continuing in order to establish the full extent of the hydrocarbon column and recover hydrocarbon samples for further testing and analysis. Further appraisal will be required to fully delineate the structure.
