HOUSTON, Feb. 21
– Maersk Oil Brasil and partner OGX Petroleo e Gas Participacoes SA encountered oil in Albian carbonates at the Carambola B exploratory well in the BM-C-37 license in the Campos basin off Brazil.

Preliminary estimate is that the well, 80 km off Rio de Janeiro state in 130 m of water, cut as much as 17 m of potential net pay. An extensive logging program including coring, pressure measurements, and hydrocarbon sampling was performed.

Further work is required to assess productivity, the firms said. Maersk Oil is operator with 50% interest in the block.
