HOUSTON, Jan. 10
– The Poland subsidiary of LNG Energy Ltd., Vancouver, BC, has spud the Wytowno S-1 shale gas exploratory well in the Baltic basin in Poland.

Saponis Investments Sp. Z o.o. is to drill the well on the Slawno concession to an Ordovician-Silurian primary objective at 3,315 m true vertical depth. It is the first exploration well to meet investment commitments for Saponis’ three concession areas; Slawno, Slupsk, and Starogard.

Cost is estimated at $10 million to drill, case, frac, and complete the well, which is near the Polish gas pipeline network. Gas prices recently averaged $9/Mscf.
