HOUSTON, Jan. 19
– A location was being prepared in early January 2011 in Block XIX in northern Peru’s Tumbes basin on which BPZ Energy Inc., Houston, hopes to see its first Peruvian onshore well drilled.

The Pampa la Gallina prospect is near the Pacific coast 10 miles northeast of Zorritos oil field on the 473,000-acre block. The block is believed to have potential for oil in the Oligocene Heath formation and gas in the underlying Mancora formation of the same age.

BPZ Energy said the Mancora gas play starts offshore in Piedra Redonda field on Block Z-1 and runs southwest-northeast through blocks XXIII and XIX. The Mancora lies at depths varying from 3,000 ft to 12,000 ft.

The company intends to farm out the exploratory well to leverage its 100% working interest in the block and to minimize its 2011 capital outlay on the block.
