HOUSTON, Jan. 17 – Blacksands Petroleum Inc., Houston, plans to drill an exploratory well in the nonproducing Pedregosa basin of southwest New Mexico in 2011.
The company has built location and plans to spud the Big Hatchet State 14-1 well southwest of Deming in southern Hidalgo County on the 38,500-acre Big Hatchet North Unit in the first quarter of 2011.
The well is to test sandstones, carbonates, and 347 ft of Devonian Percha shale, equivalent of the Woodford shale, and shallower and deeper conventional formations to a total depth of 7,000 ft.
Blacksands has completed the surveying and acquisition of 37 line-miles of 2D seismic in the 80,060-acre Hueco South Unit in the Pedregosa basin in order to further evaluate potential geologic structures.
Blacksands is operator with 50% working interest in the Pedregosa project, and Dan A. Hughes Co., Beeville, Tex., owns the other 50%.
