HOUSTON, Jan. 31 – Phoenix Exploration Co. and partners plan to drill a second well in late first quarter or early second quarter 2011 near the Marathon discovery in Atchafalaya Bay off South Louisiana.
The discovery well went to 18,800 ft in 8 ft of water and came on line Dec. 30, 2010, at 14.7 MMcfd with 12,800 psi flowing tubing pressure (OGJ Online, Nov. 2, 2010). The rate has increased to 20 MMcfd and 100 b/d of condensate. The second well will further exploit proved reserves and explore for new reserves.
Meanwhile, Petsec Energy Ltd., Sydney, which holds 10% working interest in Marathon, is to plug and abandon its Mobile Bay area fields in the 2011 first half and Main Pass 20 field in late 2011.
