MELBOURNE, Jan. 25 -- Japan’s Kyushu Electric Power Co. is the latest buyer to sign up for LNG from the Chevron Australia group’s Gorgon LNG project off Western Australia.

The company has signed a sales and purchase agreement with Chevron to take 300,000 tonnes/year of LNG from Gorgon for 20 years beginning in 2015.

The Gorgon-Jansz project consists of a gas plant and three LNG trains on Barrow Island with a total output of 15 million tpy. The project remains on schedule to deliver first gas in 2014.

An allied but separate Chevron project at Wheatstone field delivering to an onshore LNG plant at Ashburton North near Onslow on the Western Australian mainland is expected to reach a final investment decision later this year.
