HOUSTON, Jan. 19
– PetroFrontier Corp., Calgary, plans to drill two horizontal wells to explore oil potential in Middle Cambrian Basal Arthur Creek shale zone in the southern Georgina basin northeast of Alice Springs in Australia’s Northern Territory.

The first well, Baldwin-2 in EP 103, will use the Baldwin-1 vertical wellbore as the pilot hole for the Baldwin-2 horizontal leg. The second well, MacIntyre-2 in EP 127, will use the MacIntyre-1 vertical wellbore as the pilot hole for the MacIntyre-2 horizontal leg.

Both wells have conventional targets above the shale zone.

PetroFrontier has also proposed a 20-well horizontal drilling and multistage fracturing program designed to regionally evaluate the Basal Arthur Creek shale in EP 103. A coowner in the block has elected not to participate. PetroFrontier also intends to propose a vertical well program on EP 103 and EP 104 to evaluate conventional targets above and below the shale and the horizontal viability of the shale.
