  • 10/18/2011 -- API asks USFS to reject horizontal drilling ban in Virginia
    The US Forest Service may be trying to make an arbitrary and unnecessary change in federal energy policies through its forest management process if it decides to prohibit horizontal drilling in the George Washington National Forest in western Virginia, the American Petroleum Institute warned on Oct. 17.
  • 10/19/2011 -- TRC sets Eagle Ford transportation advisements
    The Texas Railroad Commission-led Eagle Ford Task Force has adopted several advisements related to truck traffic and pipeline development in the region. The rapid increase in truck traffic on local roads in the Eagle Ford shale region has led to concerns regarding the deterioration of roads and hazards to public safety.
  • 10/20/2011 -- Targa to build Barnett shale natural gas processing plant
    Targa Resources Partners LP, Houston, has ordered a 200 MMcfd cryogenic natural gas processing plant for its North Texas System to meet increasing gas production from liquids-rich areas of the Barnett shale. Targa expects the processing plant, sited in Wise County, Tex., to begin operations mid-2013, subject to regulatory approvals.
  • 10/21/2011 -- EPA to develop unconventional gas production wastewater rules
    The US Environmental Protection Agency announced that it will develop standards for handling wastewater generated during coalbed methane and shale gas production. No comprehensive set of national standards exists for such activities, and EPA will begin the process of developing a proposal with input from producers, public health officials, and other stakeholders, the agency said.
  • 10/21/2011 -- UGI plans Marcellus natural gas link to Transco
    UGI Corp. subsidiary UGI Energy Services Inc. plans to invest about $150 million to link Marcellus shale natural gas production areas in Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties, Pa., with multiple Pennsylvania and interstate markets by extending its Auburn Gathering System 30 miles from its terminus in Wyoming County, Pa., to Luzerne County, Pa.
  • 10/21/2011 -- Spectra reaches Montney shale gas processing agreements
    Spectra Energy Corp. has entered into multiyear agreements with Progress Energy Resources Corp. to provide a total 370 MMcfd of natural gas gathering and processing services for Montney shale production in northeast British Columbia.
  • 10/25/2011 -- Nebraska governor calls special legislative session on pipelines
    Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman (R) said he would call the state’s unicameral legislature into special session starting Nov. 1 to determine if siting legislation can be crafted for pipeline routing across the state.
  • 10/25/2011 -- Thick shale gas play emerging in Spain's Basque area
    Analysis of drilling and test data from 14 wells drilled since the 1950s has indicated the presence of a world class shale gas play in the Basque Country of northern Spain.

    Forest Oil Corp., Denver, has returned a drilling rig to its acreage in the Haynesville shale play of East Texas and Northwest Louisiana.
  • 11/01/2011 -- Ohio: Anadarko spuds first Utica shale well
    Anadarko Petroleum Corp. said it has spudded its first well in the Ordovician Utica shale play in eastern Ohio, where it looks forward to an active drilling program.
