    A federal district court in California blocked California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) after declaring the regulation unconstitutional.
  • 12/30/2011 -- Repsol YPF to acquire Russia's Eurotek
    Repsol YPF SA said it agreed to acquire explorer Eurotek for $230 million, and will incorporate Eurotek’s assets in western Siberia into its new Russian venture with Alliance Oil Co. (OGJ Online, Dec. 22, 2011).

    There were small-change gains in oil commodities Dec. 29, but front-month crude failed to rise above the $100/bbl barrier in the New York market. Natural gas prices continued to decline.

    Petroplus Holdings AG reported Dec. 30 it will start the temporary shutdown of three of its refineries in Europe next month after lenders froze a $1 billion credit facility.

    Crude oil prices declined across the board Dec. 28, giving back most or more than the gains from the previous session. In New York, the front-month crude contract dropped below $100/bbl as traders worried more about the troubled European economy and less about Iran’s threats to close the Strait of Hormuz.

    The front-month crude futures contract rose 1.7% to close above $101/bbl Dec. 27 in the New York market as Iran’s Vice-President Mohamed Reza Rahimi threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz if western nations sanctioned the country's oil exports in an effort to stop its nuclear program.

    US District Judge Ralph Beistline lifted BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc.’s probation and dismissed federal prosecutors’ arguments that a 2009 oil spill by BP violated its probation following a conviction of negligent discharge of oil for a 200,000-gal spill on the Alaskan North Slope during 2006.

    Energy prices were mixed Dec. 23, although the front-month crude contract temporarily crested $100/bbl in intraday trading on the New York market.
  • 12/22/2011 -- Korea Gas to buy stake in Indonesian gas field from Mitsubishi
    Korea Gas agreed to buy about half of Mitsubishi Corp.’s 20% stake in Senoro-Toili natural gas field in Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi province, Mitsubishi said.
  • 12/22/2011 -- Louisiana sues DOI over redrawn Gulf of Mexico boundaries
    Louisiana Atty. Gen. James D. “Buddy” Caldwell (R) sued the US Department of the Interior over the federal government’s redrawing of Gulf of Mexico boundaries that determine states’ mineral royalty shares.
