• 12/30/2011 -- BOEM completes draft EIS for 5-year gulf lease sale program
  The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management completed a draft environmental impact statement regarding 10 oil and gas lease sales it has tentatively scheduled in the central and western Gulf of Mexico under the proposed 2012-17 US Outer Continental Shelf program. Five sales are planned for each of the two planning areas, BOEM indicated.
• 12/28/2011 -- Noble Energy finds 5-8 tcf of gas offshore Cyprus
  The government of Cyprus said Noble Energy Inc. made a natural gas discovery offshore Cyprus on Block 12 with the Cyprus A-1 well, which encountered 310 ft of net gas pay.
• 12/22/2011 -- Round extended for 15 blocks in Egypt
  Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. has extended by 2 months a bidding round launched in September for 12 onshore and 3 offshore blocks in Egypt.
• 12/22/2011 -- Alliance, Repsol form joint venture for exploration in Russia
  Alliance Oil Co. Ltd. and Repsol Exploracion SA agreed to form a joint venture for exploration and production in Russia, combining Alliance’s Russian exploration and production expertise with Repsol’s technological and financing capabilities.
• 12/21/2011 -- Operators to test presalt Brazil-like blocks off Angola
  Offshore Angolan prospects geologically similar to presalt discoveries off Brazil will be tested under production sharing agreements signed by state-owned Sonangol and several international operators.
• 12/20/2011 -- Angola: Kwanza basin blocks due exploration
  Total SA reported plans for seismic surveys and exploratory drilling on three blocks in the deepwater Kwanza basin off Angola for which it has signed production sharing agreements with state-owned Sonangol.
• 12/19/2011 -- California offshore field redevelopment environmental review begins
  The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management began a 60-day public comment period on preparing a joint environmental evaluation with the California State Lands Commission (CSLC) of a proposal to develop oil and gas resources from three existing state-issued leases from an existing platform in federal waters 3.7 miles offshore Carpenteria, Calif.
• 12/19/2011 -- BOEM conditionally approves Shell's Chukchi Sea exploration plan
  The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management conditionally approved Shell Gulf of Mexico Inc.’s revised exploration plan for its leases in the Chukchi Sea off Alaska on Dec. 16.
• 12/16/2011 -- Algeria: Ain Tsila Ordovician gas rates considerable
  Petroceltic International PLC issued final test results on the AT-9 appraisal well in Ain Tsila field in eastern Algeria that appear to be among the highest gas flow rates achieved from an unstimulated Ordovician well in Algeria.
• 12/15/2011 -- Lower Cleveland play grows along Oklahoma-Texas line
  Operators have reported 28 horizontal completions in southern Ellis County, Okla., in the past 18 months in a low permeability play for oil and gas in the lower member of the Pennsylvanian Cleveland formation.
