  Norwegian and Danish energy agencies and 10 oil companies will extend a further 3 years a research and development program under way since 1982 to improve oil recovery from chalk fields on their respective North Sea continental shelves.
• Fri Oct 14 12:21:00 CDT 2011 -- US rig count jumps another 11 units to 2,023
  US crude oil and natural gas drilling rig activity this week jumped another 11 units to reach a total of 2,023 rigs working. This week’s count is up by 353 units from the comparable period a year ago, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.

  PTTEP Australia Timor Sea Pty Ltd. has spudded the Kingtree exploratory well on the AC/P 24 permit in the Vulcan subbasin of the Timor Sea off northwestern Australia.

  Ensco PLC ordered a newbuild ultrapremium harsh-environment jack up rig to be built under a fixed-price shipyard construction contract with Keppel FELS Ltd. in Singapore.

  Eni Australia has started production from Kitan oil field in the Joint Petroleum Development Area permit JPDA 06-105 between Timor Leste and Australia.

  Premier Oil Vietnam Offshore BV has started production from Chim Sao oil field on Block 12W about 350 km offshore southern Vietnam (OGJ Online, Apr. 18, 2011).
• Fri Oct 07 12:34:00 CDT 2011 -- US rig count jumps 22 units to 2,012
  US crude oil and natural gas drilling rig activity this week jumped 22 units to reach a total of 2,012, the first time the count was above 2,000 since the week ended Sept. 19, 2008, when the count was 2,018.
