RasGas selects GE emission-reducing technology

By OGJ editors
HOUSTON, Dec. 15 -- RasGas Co. Ltd. is installing GE’s dry low nitrogen oxides (DLN) combustion technology to reduce gas turbine emissions at its LNG plant in Ras Laffan Industrial City, north of Doha. The move responds to Qatar’s regulatory requirements for nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

Retrofit of GE’s gas turbines at the site is part of a long-term maintenance agreement between RasGas and GE. A GE team is responsible for performing all maintenance of GE units at the site.

“The technology retrofits for our first six GE gas turbines reduced NOx emission levels by more than half, which goes beyond the country’s current regulatory requirements,” said Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, RasGas managing director. “We will be moving forward with the retrofitting of the rest of our fleet of gas turbines to ensure that the entire complex fulfills its environmental responsibilities.”

GE’s DLN combustion technology is designed to help gas turbine operators meet lower emissions requirements without injection of diluents. More than 700 GE DLN combustors have compiled more than 23 million hr of operation on almost 800 units worldwide, said the GE announcement.

RasGas operates all RasGas projects and is owned by Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil RasGas Inc. Based in Ras Laffan, RasGas currently has seven trains in operation.
