HOUSTON, Nov. 3
– Bill Barrett Corp., Denver, has spud a horizontal exploratory well to Cretaceous Niobrara shale at 8,200 ft in the Wind River basin of Wyoming.

Among the Cave Gulch, Bullfrog, and associated units that are producing a net 18 MMcfd of gas, the company has identified more than 100,000 acres that it considers prospective for oil from the shale.

Completion timing may be affected by winter and wildlife stipulations that will be in effect mid-November 2010 through July 2011, the company said.
