HOUSTON, Nov. 3
– Continental Resources Inc., Enid, Okla., plans to spud its first long-lateral Niobrara shale well in December 2010 in northern Weld County, Colo.

Continental will have an 87% working interest in the Newton 1-9H, the first Niobrara well permitted for 1,280-acre spacing in the Colorado part of the play. It is to have a 9,200-ft lateral, similar to the well-design approach Continental is using in the North Dakota Bakken play.

Continental is permitting more Niobrara wells in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming and pending results from Newton 1-9H expects to drill other Niobrara wells early in the second quarter of 2011.

The company has 73,009 net acres leased in the Niobrara play in Weld County and in Platte, Laramie, and Goshen counties, Wyo.
