HOUSTON, Nov. 4 -- Houston independent Apache Corp. said its first two horizontal wells are producing from the Hogshooter portion of the Granite Wash play in the Anadarko basin in Beckham County, Okla.
The wells each commenced production at rates of more than 2,000 b/d of oil. After nearly 2 months on production, each of the two wells averages 700 b/d of oil and 3.5 MMcfd of gas, Apache said Nov. 4.
The two wells are more than 15 miles apart, pointing to meaningful potential in the Hogshooter segment, which is shallower, younger, and more oil-prone than previous Granite Wash targets in western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle, Apache said.
The Edler 1-5 well was drilled to 11,360 ft vertical depth with a 4,360-ft horizontal section in eight stages. Apache own 82% interest in Edler 1-5.
The Thetford 4-23 was drilled to a vertical depth of 10,900 ft with a 4,280-ft horizontal section in nine stages. Apache owns 56% of it.
Apache owns nine horizontal rigs in the Granite Wash play and plans to drill a third horizontal Hogshooter well by yearend. For 2011, Apache plans to add another horizontal rig and drill more than 40 horizontal Granite Wash wells, including 10 in the Hogshooter portion.
