HOUSTON, Oct. 22 -- Total SA plans to shoot a 1,000 sq km 3D seismic survey and begin drilling by 2012 on a block off Ivory Coast in which has agreed to acquire a major interest.
Authorities have approved Total’s acquisition of a 60% interest in the deepwater C-100 license from Yam Petroleum. The license, of which Total will become operator, covers nearly 2,000 sq km in the Gulf of Guinea about 100 km southeast of Abidjan. Water depths are 1,500-3,100 m.
Yam, which retains a 25% interest, shot an initial 3D seismic survey. State-owned Petroci holds the remaining 15%.
Marc Blaizot, senior vice-president, geosciences, at Total Exploration & Production, said the area has geological objectives similar to those that have yielded discoveries in neighboring Ghana.
