ONGC producing oil from Cauvery basin strike

By OGJ editors
HOUSTON, Oct. 18
-- Oil & Natural Gas Corp. has placed the Kovilkallappal-1 exploratory well on production on the L-II PEL block in India’s Cauvery basin.

The land well, drilled to 2,416 m, tested 300 b/d of oil through a 6-mm choke from the Lower Cretaceous Andimadam formation at 2,130-32 m in a hydrocarbon-bearing zone at 2,120-32 m. ONGC said it sampled gas in another zone at 2,110-12 m.

The discovery is on a fault block north of Kovilkallappal field in Thanjavur District. ONGC said it establishes prospectivity of the Andimadam formation between Kovilkallappal and Adichapuram in the Nagapattinam subbasin “and has opened up a large area for further exploration and appraisal in this part of the PEL.”
