CNOOC begins building another LNG terminal

HOUSTON, Oct. 22
-- China National Offshore Oil Corp. said earlier this week it has begun building its fourth LNG terminal in China, in Zhuhai City in South China's Guangdong Province, state-owned Xinhua News Agency reported on its web site.

First-phase construction of the terminal will install receipt capacity of 3.5 million tonnes/year of LNG and is scheduled to start up in September 2013. Included are three LNG storage tanks of undisclosed capacities, a wharf, and 291 km of pipelines. Total investment will be about $1.7 billion.

Second-phase construction will add another 3.5 million tpy by 2015 with ultimate capacity of 12 million tpy.

The terminal will send out natural gas Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, and Jiangmen in the Pearl River Delta area.

Xinhua stated CNOOC is planning nine additional LNG terminals along the country's coast to increase total handling capacity to more than 30 million tpy.

CNOOC, parent of the New York and Hong Kong-listed CNOOC Ltd., has put into operation three other LNG terminals, in Shanghai, Guangdong, and Fujian.
