HOUSTON, Oct. 22
-- OGX Petroleo e Gas Participacoes SA said the 3-OGX-21D-RJS appraisal well on the BM-C-41 block in Brazil's southern Campos basin cut an oil-bearing interval in the Albian section, confirming the Waimea accumulation discovered in the OGX-3 exploratory well.

OGX, which holds 100% working interest in the block, said that to date the appraisal well has cut a 21-m oil column with 14 m of net pay in Albian carbonates. The well was still in the hydrocarbon zone when drilling was interrupted in order to obtain samples, after which drilling will resume.

The well will be used as a pilot for a horizontal well in which a cased-hole drillstem test will be run. The 21-D well is in 134 m of water 84 km off Rio de Janeiro state.
