HOUSTON, July 15
-- Total SA plans to develop the offshore Islay gas field on UK Block 3/15 and Norway Blocks 29/6a and 29/6c.

The field, discovered in 2008, lies in 120 m of water and Total estimates that it contains 17 million boe of gas and condensate. The company expects a peak gas production of 2.5 million cu m/day from the field, with first production starting in second-half 2011.

Islay is about 3 km from Jura gas field, which went on stream in May 2008. Jura produces from two subsea completed wells connected to a pipeline linking Forvie-North and Alwyn fields.

Total will also connect Islay production to Alwyn.

Both the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy have approved the development.

Total holds a 100% interest in Islay.
