HOUSTON, June 7
– Canbriam Energy has spud the St. Barnabe-1 well on the 37,247-ha Canbriam-Gastem St-Hyacinthe property in Quebec, said Gastem, Montreal.

The partners plan to drill vertically to 2,536 m, core and log, then plug back for a horizontal leg.

The well is part of a four-well program to evaluate the Utica shale, Lorraine, and Trenton formations on the block. A lateral will be drilled into each formation and hydraulic fracturing will be conducted. The same rig previously drilled the La Presentation well.
