HOUSTON, June 14 – Encana Corp. may drill at least two more wells exploring for gas in Middle Ordovician Collingwood shale and overlying Utica shale in Michigan in 2010.
The company holds 250,000 net acres on which the formations lie at depths of 4,000-9,500 ft. The first well, in north-central Missaukee County, flowed 2.5 MMcfd plus condensate from Collingwood (OGJ Online, May 7, 2010).
The company’s holdings in the emerging unconventional gas play are in 7-year leases acquired for an average $150/acre in Cheboygan, Emmet, Charlevoix, Kalkaska, Crawford, Missaukee, and Roscommon counties.
