Pakistan awards 4 blocks to PPL

Government of Pakistan awarded four oil and gas exploration licenses to Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. (PPL).

KARACHI, May 3--
Government of Pakistan awarded four oil and gas exploration licenses to Pakistan Petroleum Ltd. (PPL).

PPL is expected to invest $24.2 million on exploration for hydrocarbon reserves in the areas for which licenses were granted: blocks 2468-12 (Kotri), 2568-21 (Kotri North), 2468-10 (Sirani), and 3170-6 (Dera Ismail Khan).

Kotri block is located primarily in district Thatta while Kotri North block is in district Dadu. Sirani block is in district Badin. All these blocks are in Sindh Province. Dera Ismail Khan block is located in district Layyah, Punjab province and district Dera Ismail Khan, in North West Frontier Province

The Pakistan government will put up 17 more oil and gas blocks for bidding by national and multinational exploration companies by June 30. While the government had targeted 40 exploration blocks to offer this year, it might expand the offer to 50 blocks.
