HOUSTON, May 12
– Warren Resources Inc., New York, said two horizontal wells drilled since Apr. 15 in California’s Wilmington Townlot Unit produced at an initial combined 400 b/d of oil from the Tar reservoir.

Tar formation wells typically decline 40-60% in the first year, the company noted.

The wells are the first of eight, including one water injector, budgeted for 2010 and the first wells drilled at WTU since late 2008. More wells may be added to the program in coming months, including in the Upper Terminal and Ford reservoirs. Warren owns a 98.9% working interest in WTU.

WTU-2171 was horizontally drilled to a measured total depth of 5,117 ft in the D1A Tar reservoir at 2,700 ft true vertical depth with a 1,500-ft completion interval. WTU-2169 was drilled to 5,082 ft MTD with a 1,400-ft completion interval.
