HOUSTON, Mar. 23
– Oil and drilling fluid flowed at unstable rates on an open hole drillstem test at the Oil Search Ltd. Al Meashar-1 exploratory well in Block 7 in Yemen’s Shabwa basin.

The test interval is 3,125-3,660 m measured depth, and the well is still recovering lost drilling fluid. Tests continued. The well topped fractured basement at 3,390 m MD.

Al Meashar-1 targets fractured basement rock in a structure defined by a 3D survey shot in 2008.

The wellsite is 18 km east of Nilam oil field on Block S2 and 15 miles northeast of Oil Search’s Tubb’a-1 discovery well in Block 3 that sustained more than 14 MMscfd of gas and 500 b/d of condensate.

Interests at Al Meashar-1 are Oil Search (ROY) Ltd. operator with 34%, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co. (Aden) Ltd. 21.25%, ARC Energy Holdings Ltd. 21.25%, Mitsui Exploration & Production Middle East BV 8.5%, and Yemen General Corp. for Oil and Gas 15%.
