HOUSTON, Jan. 12
– Murphy Oil Corp., El Dorado, Ark., said its first Eagle Ford shale well flowed at an initial 7.5 MMcfd of gas from a 3,190-ft lateral after a 13-stage frac.

The George Miles-1H, in McMullen County, Tex., went to 13,320 ft vertically (see map, OGJ, Dec. 7, 2009, p. 39).

The company is drilling its second well, to the northeast in Karnes County.

In the Gulf of Mexico, Murphy Oil took a 9.375% working interest in the drilling of a Middle Miocene prospect in Green Canyon Block 723 in the Gulf of Mexico. It is to reach 31,000 ft in 5,100 ft of water by the end of the first quarter of 2010.

The Siakap-2 and Jangas-2 exploration wells in Block K off Sabah, Malaysia, found less than hoped for oil pays updip from the original discoveries and have been plugged and abandoned.
