  • 09/30/2010 -- API, NPRA file motions in oil sands lawsuit
    The American Petroleum Institute, National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, and US Chamber of Commerce moved on Sept. 29 to intervene in two environmental organizations’ lawsuit seeking to keep the US Department of Defense from using fuel produced from Canadian oil sands.

    Suncor Energy Inc. reported an outage at a hydrogen reformer unit in its oil sands base plant in Fort McMurray, Alta.

    Reliance Industries Ltd., Mumbai, has taken another step into US unconventional resource plays by entering a venture that envisions the drilling of 1,000 wells in the Marcellus shale fairway.

    Shell Canada Ltd. said it has completed the maintenance turnaround of the Muskeg River mine and Scotford upgrader in Alberta.
  • 05/18/2010 -- Japex unit seeks to expand Canadian oil sands operations
    Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. subsidiary Japan Canada Oil Sands Ltd. (Jacos) submitted a joint application to the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board and Alberta Environment for approval to expand its oil sands production operations.

    Grizzly Oil Sands ULC submitted applications to the Alberta Energy Resources Conservation Board and Alberta Environment for developing the 11,300 b/d Algar Lake steam-assisted gravity drainage oil sands project.
  • 02/25/2010 -- Syncrude to increase oil sands processing capacity
    Canadian Oil Sands Trust said that based on preliminary scoping and design work the debottlenecking of Syncrude Canada Ltd.'s existing Mildred Lake upgrading facility, 40 km north of Fort McMurray, Alta., would increase the facility's capacity to 425,000 b/d of synthetic crude oil by 2020, compared with the current 350,000 b/d capacity.
  • 01/21/2010 -- Alberta approves Husky's Sunrise oil sands project
    Husky Energy Inc. said it had completed front end engineering and design (FEED) for Phase 1 of the Sunrise oil sands project and has obtained the approval from the Alberta Environment Department and the Energy Resources and Conservation Board (ERCB) to proceed with the project.

    Venezuela’s Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) and Italy’s Eni SPA agreed to establish two joint ventures to produce and refine oil from the Junin 5 block in the Orinoco belt.

    Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. together with North West Upgrading Inc. has submitted a proposal to Alberta for constructing and operating a bitumen upgrader and refinery near Redwater in Sturgeon County.
